What is the chance you have the same birthday as someone else in the room? If you have three-of-a-kind in a game of poker, how likely are you to win the game? Probability gives us the tools to analyze these questions, giving order to seemingly “random” processes. Probability is also the foundation of statistics, which is crucial to research in practically every field and is the basis of machine learning. In this course, we will build up the basics of probability necessary to begin to understand randomness. Each week will be themed around a different probability or logic puzzle, and students will develop problem-solving skills and math foundations useful for future studies.
