Innovating Futures: Design Thinking in Business & STEM

Course Overview:

Unlock the power of innovation through a dynamic fusion of Design Thinking principles, Visual Literacy, and STEM applications. In this transformative course, students will embark on a journey to cultivate creativity, empathy, and problem-solving skills as they explore the intersection of human-centered design in the realms of Business, Product Design and STEM. Through a unique blend of theory, practical application, and project-based learning, participants will emerge with a newfound understanding of design thinking and its transformative impact on our world.

Course Description:

In this comprehensive course, we will guide students through the six fundamental phases of design thinking: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test, and Implement.

Participants will leave this course with:

  • A deep understanding of "What is Design Thinking?" 
  • Practical skills in applying these human-centered techniques to real-world challenges. 
  • Enhanced communication, leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, social responsibility, and global citizenship skills, equipping students to be the innovators of the future.
  • A project that they have worked on.
  • A certificate and course outlines signed by Joel Simon and Nada Miljkovic- both instructors from prestigious  Stanford University Programs.
  • A letter of recommendation may be provided based on  the instructor's discretion.

Joel Simon

MS, Stanford University

After earning three degrees at Stanford, including a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Product Design, Joel teamed up with the Stanford Alumni Association to collaboratively create and design educational group tours spanning the globe. This expertise, combined with an entrepreneurial spirit, led Joel to create Sea for Yourself, Inc. a specialized travel company representing Joel’s passion for travel, marine biology, photography, and Design Thinking! 

Nada Miljkovic

MA, Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies Instructor

Nada Miljković, has been an instructor for Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies, teaching Business not only at the Stanford campus but has also extended her expertise internationally to countries such as Kazakhstan, Chile, Peru, and Brazil and now is bringing her knowledge and expertise to India.

Through her collaborations with influential figures like Toby Corey, former President at Tesla, and Richard Vargas, renowned for his role as Creative Director at Apple during Steve Jobs' tenure, Nada has garnered invaluable insights into the realms of business, marketing, branding, and film.

Throughout her career she has founded four companies and contributed to numerous nonprofits. She is currently also an esteemed faculty member at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), and project manager at the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurial Development.

In her teaching, Nada incorporates cutting-edge methodologies such as Design Thinking, infusing creativity and business theory into hands-on, cross-disciplinary, and project-based learning experiences. Through her innovative approach, Nada empowers students to tackle real-world challenges with confidence, equipping them with the skills and mindset necessary to thrive in today's rapidly evolving business landscape.
