Engineering & Video Game Design
This course introduces students to computer science and design thinking through video game design, providing a hands-on experience that merges creativity with technical skills. Through analyzing, designing, building, and testing games, students will explore the fundamentals of software engineering, storytelling, and user experience. By employing design-thinking strategies, students will learn to approach complex systems critically, building essential skills in programming, problem-solving, and collaboration. The course culminates in a capstone project where students design, code, and deploy their own video game using the industry-standard GameMaker Studio platform. Alongside technical skills, students will develop communication abilities through group projects, presentations, and the creation of an online portfolio.

Geoffrey Morris
M.S. in Cognitive Science, Stanford University | Stanford Pre-Collegiate Instructor
Geoffrey Morris is an experienced educator, designer, and engineer from San Francisco with over 15 years in the field. He holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University, where he specialized in Cognitive Science, Human/Computer Interaction, and Sound Design. Geoffrey’s career has included collaborations with artists, startups, and global brands as a user experience designer, and he has led seminars at Stanford, UC Berkeley, and the University of San Francisco. As an instructor for Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies for over a decade, he has taught courses in Computer Science, Robotics, Software Engineering, and Game Design, shaping future innovators. Currently affiliated with 10x Management, he is focused on advancing education technology and digital signal processing applications.
